prevalence of keratoconus in patients with mitral valve prolapse
Authors
abstract
purpose: to determine the prevalence of keratoconus (kcn) in patients with mitral valve prolapse (mvp). methods: this descriptive study was conducted on patients with mvp at shahid rajaei hospital during 2003-2004. corneal topography was performed in 392 subjects with absolute mitral valve prolapse based on perloff’s major criteria. orbscan was carried out in suspected kcn cases. results: patient consisted of 247 men (63%) and 145 women (37%) with mean age of 37.27 ± 11.29 years. the diagnosis of two topographically kcn suspect patients was not confirmed with orbscan. positive family history of keratoconus in first-degree relatives was found in three patients. no cases of keratoconus were found. conclusion: this study suggests that the prevalence of kcn in patient’s with mvp could be less than previously reported. a large multicenter study is needed to detect the association of these disorders. genetic studies are suggested.

Prevalence of psychiatry disorders in patients with mitral valve Prolapse syndrome
SUMMARY: The mitral valve prolapse syndrome (MVPS) is a common cardiac disorder, occurring in five percent of general population. An association has been claimed between MVPS and psychiatry disorders. In this study 648 patients (mean age 32.2 years, 411 female .237 male subjects) with echocardiographically confirmed MVPS were tested for psychiatry disorders, and compared with 660 control group...
full textMarcus-gunn phenomenon with- mitral valve prolapse
Marcus-gunn phenomenon is a congenital and sometimes hereditary anomaly, in which a ptotic eyelid retracts momentarily when the mouth is open, or the jaw is moved. These associated movements attributed to abnormal connections between the central mechanisms innervating the pterygoid and elevator muscles. Sometimes this anomaly is associated with dual,s retraction syndrome, duplex kindneys and ur...

purpose: to investigate the association between acute corneal hydrops in patients with keratoconus (kcn) and mitral valve prolapse (mvp). methods: this case-control study included kcn patients with corneal hydrops who were referred to labbafinejad medical center or a collaborating private clinic from march 2006 to march 2008 as the case group. the control group included age- and sex-matched ind...
full textArrhythmias in Patients with Mitral Valve Prolapse
Resting ECGs, exercise treadmill tests and 24-hour ambulatory ECGs were recorded and analyzed in 24 unselected patients with mitral valve prolapse. Arrhythmias were frequent. There were three distinct groups of patients, defined on the basis of total number of premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) during the 24 hours: there were no PVCs in 25%, infrequent PVCs in 25%, and frequent PVCs in 5...
full textArrhythmias in patients with mitral valve prolapse.
The aim of the study was to analyse rhythm disturbances in 92 patients with mitral valve prolapse syndrome (52 women and 40 men). The patients were examined by resting electrocardiograms monitoring, exercise electrocardiogram (submaximal exercise test), phonocardiograms and echocardiograms. We found tachycardia sinusalis in 72 patients (78%), supraventricular premature beats in 23 (25%) and ven...
full textE VALUATION OF ADENYLATE CYCLASE ACTIVITY IN MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE
The term mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is used for a particular subset of patients with hyperadrenergic dysautonomia. It occurs when part of a leaflet or both leaflets of the mitral valve extend above the plane of the atrioventricular junction during ventricular systole. The adenylate cyclase activity in MVP dys-autonomia was studied by extraction of enzyme from the erythrocytes from 62 norma...
